Work it, Girl!

April 29, 2018

While it’s true that some indie authors do make quite a decent living from writing, let’s face it – the majority of us need a full-time job to pay the rent. So, we write in our spare time; Oh wait! We have spare time??? Well, it may not be “spare” but I try to carve out a niche of time every day to do what I love – write!!

So what do I do? For my “real” job, I own a daycare in my home. See, I live across the street from a grade school, so it seemed a pretty good way to make an income and still stay home for my kids. Oh, and did I mention I thought I would have enough time to write? Yes!

Now here’s the problem – I thought I’d have time. But between my own kids and the daycare, plus that darn housekeeping list, it was the hard to carve out the time, until summer.  So, during the school year, I was prim and proper daycare owner, expanding little minds with finger paints and PlayDoh. And that required a ton of baby wipes, believe me. Just as a tip for moms, these are my faves for all spills and little fingers and faces.

It also gave me great stories to include in my books. As a matter of fact, Something’s Gotta Give tells the tale of the Casanova of the County falling for a volunteer firefighter who also owns a daycare. As you might have guessed, the stories in this novel about the kids and their shenanigans are true!

Now, teachers around here still get the summer’s off, so I’m basically free to write my heart out, but I still had my own kids to keep occupied, so I bought a bunch of water pistols, let them go crazy in my backyard once a week as a treat if they behaved, while I sat in my screened porch and spun the tales of the Coalson brothers. These little suckers are small, but they have quite a range!

So that’s how I did it.  I wrote the first four books of my Tempered Steel Series over a summer. Did the same thing the next year with the last three, plus I compiled a companion cookbook to go with the series since so many fans wanted more recipes from the matriarch of the Series, Ginny Coalson. Seems the best conversations happened in her kitchen while she served up something delicious.

They are all on this website with these awesome little buttons to link the reader to their favorite eReader format as well as how to grab a paperback. Just hit under the book image and you will find everything about that particular book, including teasers, samples, and of, course, how to buy!

Here’s what I came up with this year:

On April 24th, I will be releasing my women’s erotica bundle, entitled Lustful Legacy. It’s a sensual type of erotica, chronicling the adventures of a woman known only as The Widow. It’s definitely 18+, but it has a ‘happy ending’! lol

I was also honored to be chosen to write a short story for the Dress Blues: Memorial Day Anthology, which will be out around Memorial Day, of course. But the wonderful part is that the proceeds will be going to our wounded warriors.

I’m also doing another project near and dear to my heart. Tempting Fate is an anthology with stories about overcoming seemingly impossible odds to become stronger and take control of your life. The proceeds from this will benefit the Cancer Research Institute.

And I’m very happy to announce my first paranormal romance series will be released June 1st! The Legends Series is based on Native American folklore with a shifter kick!  The first book, Legends: Catori, is the beginning glimpse into the world that lives with us, and yet, we never know their secrets.

You can find all of these wonderful books on my website as well as many others. Oh, and if you’d like to find out more about me, please check out my other social media sites at the bottom of the home page or, better yet, sign up for my newsletter! I’ll send you a free book, plus you get special access to subscriber only giveaways and sneak peeks at what’s coming up.
